Yakshagana

Performed through the night in village squares and temple courtyards, the towering headgear and vivid face makeup make it one of coastal Karnataka's most spectacular living art forms.
Kambala
A traditional buffalo race held across the muddy paddy fields of coastal Karnataka after the harvest season. Pairs of buffaloes, guided by a runner, race through slush tracks as crowds cheer from the sidelines. Rooted in agrarian life, Kambala celebrates the bond between farmers and their buffaloes and remains one of the region's most thrilling community events.
Bhuta Kola
A powerful ritual performance unique to the Tulunadu coast, in which performers embody local guardian spirits, or Bhutas, through striking costumes, fire and trance-like dance. Held in sacred groves and shrines through the night, Kola is deeply woven into village life — invoked for blessings, protection and to resolve community matters.
Nagaradhane
Snake worship runs deep in coastal Karnataka households, with sacred groves called Nagabana preserved within family properties for generations. Rituals such as Ashlesha Bali are performed to honour serpent deities, seeking prosperity, fertility and protection for the family — a tradition that blends reverence for nature with everyday faith.
Udupi Cuisine
A vegetarian culinary tradition born in the temple kitchens of Sri Krishna Matha, now loved across the world. Simple, local ingredients — coconut, jackfruit, lentils and rice — are transformed through generations of temple cooking wisdom into dishes like masala dosa, sambar and filter coffee that carry the flavour of Udupi wherever they travel.
